Col and I have been watching a lot of movies as of late; last night’s pick was Sicko by Michael Moore. Now, I realize that Moore’s views are quite extreme. I also realize that I had huge issues with Blood Money, calling it propaganda and other not-so-classy words because it was seriously pro-life and I am seriously pro-choice – that and the fact that I can’t stand fear mongering.

When new technologies emerge typically a host of new companies sprout up. Before deregulation in the 1970s onward, there were tons of independent radio stations catering to diverse interests. The advent of digital technology has brought dozens of new channels to television; that same technology has led to a host of new production companies as well making independent TV and films. Now it seems the drive to create original web video — a trend that dates back to the late 1990s, but has gained new st

The very first line I ever heard Woody Allen speak was a joke on the Tonight show concerning theological issues, about how, during a divinity test, he cheated by “looking into the soul of the girl sitting next to me.” I believe that he used a clip from such a stand up routine in one of his films, perhaps Annie Hall. I honestly don’t remember. For decades, Woody has intertwined several basic themes: love and its yearnings.

Disney has a new princess! They are retelling the story of the “Princess and the Frog” and I think I can relate… er… somewhat.I know you must be wondering why a middle aged matron is getting all excited about a new cartoon release. Michael Moore’s new film, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” which had its world premiere last night, has been warmly received by the hundre

by Jen Sweet With the current industrial changes, many families are attempting to find out how to get back to basics and concentrate on quality, cheap solutions. Whether you decide to take your youngsters to the local park rather than going to the films or growing your own tomatoes rather than ordering pizza, you probably want to provide the very best you can for your family without breaking the bank. In my home, we adopted pancake Saturdays instead of the usual trip to the local cafe.

It’s ironic to hear the Daily Mail Tory brigade moaning about the “nanny state” and “thought police” when they are all in favour of local councils banning films full of explict sex and violence. From the Daily Mail: Children barred from seeing classic films over plans to impose 18 certificate for smoking By Tim Shipman 13th August 2009 Under the proposals, both the original 1960’s cartoon and the 1996 movie version of 101 Dalmations could face a ban due to Cruel
